Robertsganj (Hindi: राबर्टसगंज , Urdu: رابرٹس گنج) is a city and a municipal board in Sonbhadra district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The Robertsganj comes under the second largest district of Uttar Pradesh that is “Sonebhadra”. Robertsganj is also the administrative headquarters of Sonbhadra district.
Robertsganj is located between Vindhyan Range and Kaimur Range, in the Mirzapur administrative division, Uttar Pradesh, India. Robertsganj is situated at an average elevation of 301 meters and is 90 kilometers away from nearest airport city Varanasi.
Robertsganj has always been a multicultural city. People call it city of lakes ,But Due to wonderful Mountains,beautiful garden, pleasant Dam and historical places in this area ( Veer Lorik Stone, Vijaygarh Fort, Sodharigarh Durg ) it actually like a city of heaven .
Robertsganj - The headquarters of Sonbhadra, is located about 83 km from from the city Mirzapur and about 86 km from the nearest airport city Varanasi . Sonbhadra became an industrial heaven from an area of power stations,forest and hills with lots of natural beauty ,due to this reason our First Prime minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru called sonbhadra to "The Switzerland of India".
The southern region of Sonebhadra is referred to as the " Energy Capital of India " this region has many electrical power stations around Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar. NTPC (a leading power generation company in India) has three coal-based thermal power plants, one of them in Shaktinagar SSTPS(Singrauli Super Thermal Power Station -India's first NTPC Power Plant), VSTPP (Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power project- largest capacity in India, 4760 MW) and in Bijpur Rihandnagar, RHSTPP(Rihand Super Thermal Power project).The forts Located in the Sonbhadra are , Aghori Fort - Ruled by Madan Shah,Vijaygarh Fort - Ruled by King Chet Singh,Sodhrigarh Durg- Ruled by Garhwal kings.
Other power stations are at Anpara (UPRVUNL), Obra (UPRVUNL), Renusagar (Hindalco) and Pipri-Hydro (UPRVUNL). NCL (a branch of Coal India Limited) has its headquarters and many coal mines in this region. Some of the hills were having limestone and lot of them were having coal. There were some small rivers running through the area and the major was the Son rivers(Son Nadi).
